5 Ways To Rock A Dress In The (Cold) Winter
As the temperature continues to drop, my first instinct is to abandon my beloved rack of dresses. I keep all of my dresses in my basement organized by sleeve + hem length (but that’s a story for another time). For functionality purposes, dresses can be hard to wear in the winter but today I’m partnering with Nordstrom to give you five tips for wearing dresses in colder weather.
TIP #1
Opt for a thicker sweater material (like the one I’m wearing here, similar one here) and layer your jackets up! I am wearing this faux leather jacket but if it was colder I’d probably layer a topcoat on top of it as well. See my previous winter coat round up here in case you missed it!
TIP #2
Speaking of layers… they don’t need to necessarily need to be outerwear. Throw on a faux fur vest or an open cardigan for warmth that can be worn indoors. You can also throw on a scarf or floppy hat to accessorize and freshen up your look.
TIP #3
Pair your sleeveless sheath dress (like this one) with a long sleeve bodysuit or a black turtleneck. You can also add opaque black tights or a patterned black tight to give it a fun pop!
TIP #4
Shoes can be tricky with dresses for cold weather, especially while wearing tights - if it’s not too cold, opt for a pointed pump the same color as your stocking to elongate your legs or opt for an ankle bootie that hits below the smallest part of your ankle like these. You could also rock knee or thigh high boots for extra added warmth.
TIP #5
Treat your dress like a skirt! Wear a sweater over a slip dress or pleated dress. You could also add a belt to define your waistline and balance out your proportion, especially if you’re hourglass figured.
