The Friday Fit: Election Week
Hello, my friends! Happy Friday, time for another edition of The Friday Fit! This week felt long and hard. But as Thursday evening approached, I felt especially grateful for the opportunity to sit down, collect my thoughts and shine a little light on the good things. If I’m being honest, this week felt a little harder to scrounge for goodness but I did it! I say this in case it feels harder for you to find the positives right now, they’re there - I promise. So here we go:
Exercised my right to vote this week, a right I never want to take for granted. I have very fond memories of going to “vote” as a kid with my parents and pulling the lever on the voting machine. And yes, it is JUST as exciting to get the voting sticker now as it was when I was younger.
Also exercised my ability to eat carbs… and a lot of them. BK and I had a lovely little “election night in” which began with an extra dirty martini and ended with making my great-grandmother’s meatballs and wine, lots of wine.
When it was too early for cocktails, I did a little retail therapy shopping (oops) of some cozy fall / winter finds. I’ll be doing a little try on this weekend and / or early next week but in case you’d like to snoop them earlier, I linked them here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
For further distraction, I am excited to kick off ‘CMK HOLIDAY HQ 2020’ with my first gift guide of the season featuring small businesses and ideas to shop small this holiday season. You can check out all previous and upcoming guides on the top of my blog’s “holiday” tab now on my website in red or you can just click here!
Apologies for the up-close selfie, I received a complimentary Personal Color Consultation by Lindsey Myers of CreatedColorful.com. We connected randomly on IG and hit it off right away. She was kind enough to send me a detailed guide of which colors best compliment my skin tone. Knowing your palette is an easy way to build a capsule wardrobe, as you can mix and match any of the colors. You can use this knowledge to help make informed decisions about which colors best suit you. Knowing your best colors allows you to have confidence when shopping, saving you time and energy, by eliminating choices that won’t work for you and focusing on the pieces that are going to highlight your natural beauty. The majority of the information she provided wasn’t news to me but it has certainly been helpful Priced at $50, it would make a great gift for someone who would love a little guidance on finding your shades. You can check out more here.
My Equilibria CBD may or may not be the unofficial MVP of 2020. I have an updated blog post about my CBD usage planned for this weekend but you can check out the previous one here. It’s helped me tremendously over the past year but ESPECIALLY for taking the edge off this week. “Caralynmirand” still works for a discount in case you’re interested!
Halloween feels like an actual lifetime ago but this little bunch of cuteness was too sweet not to re-share. My sister in law hosted Brian and I over for the evening to see our cute niece dressed as a scarecrow. She also made mummy dogs and they DID NOT disappoint.
You know what’s amazing? We have made it through this week. That alone deserves a moment of applause, you did it! I’d like to offer you a virtual, germ free high-five. Personally I struggled this week with anxiety from the heaviness and uncertainty of the election, so much so I took a couple days to re-group. As social media is my career, I shared on this post that it is sometimes hard for me to set boundaries with my phone usage and I've been trying to be more strategic and deliberate with it. You don’t have to work in social media to recognize it’s okay to take a break every now and then. It can be A LOT and taking some time away can be incredibly rejuvenating for me! There is NEVER enough self care to go around so I strongly encourage you to take a moment (or 10) for yourself this weekend.
When I’m stressed, I love to shop and eat. Well, to be honest when I’m happy I like to shop and eat— I guess I always like to shop and eat but anyways… I really wish I was one of those people who loved to exercise to burn off steam. We’ve still been consistent with our walks but carbs just hit different, you feel me? I’ve got my eye on a few recipes starting with this carmelized onion dip, slow cooker healthier creamy tortellini vegetable soup and this BCB apple cider mojito. Sign me up for all the comfort food, don’t forget the cheese plate!
In case you missed it, this week I shared October’s most loved items including this under $50 winter coat that rivals a Patagonia one I tried and returned. I also shared what sexy means to me in partnership with Figleaves (one of my favorite undies/swim brands) and kicked off my holiday gifting guides with some small business love! What would you like to see next week? Appreciate your feedback so much! Any fun plans for the weekend? I’d love to hear. Hang in there, my friends. Sending you lots of love! xx CMK
