My Current Skincare Favorites
Earlier this year I deemed 2020 as the year of travel AND the year of good skin. In lieu of current events, it has certainly put a damper on travel plans but there’s still hope for our skin- even in stressful situations! No matter your experience or interest with skincare, you should be cleansing and moisturizing twice a day at the very least. Once you have established that routine, you can begin to add to that. I would also like to note that if you have skin, you should have a skincare routine. Looking at you, fellas!
Consistency is key.
Although I believe genetics, age and diet play a huge roll in how your skin behaves, there are things you can do to improve your skin. The most important step is actually doing it- even when I’ve had a few too many glasses of wine, I ALWAYS wash my makeup off at night. It’s a commitment but when people ask about my skin, I think it’s important to note! In case you were wondering, I have combination oily/dry skin and get mostly hormonal acne.
CURRENT FAVORITES:
These are a few of my tried and trusted brands at all different price points. Keep in mind, it’s my job to try out many different products and brands so here’s what is in my current rotation. I always try to get discount codes when I can, use CARALYN25 at Elemis for 25% off and CARALYN at Tula for 15% off.
Step 1: Cleanser Favorites:
Why cleanse? Cleansing removes dirt, oil, makeup and other unwanted debris.
First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Cleanser, Tula Purifying Face Cleanser, Origins Frothy Face Wash, Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm
Step 2: Toner Favorites:
Why tone? A good toner will remove any remaining bits of oil, dirt and debris left behind by the cleanser. More importantly, toner will help soothe, nourish and hydrate the skin while restoring its delicate pH balance. You can use the pads with product in them or use the product loose with your own cotton square.
First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads, Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads, Colleen Rothschild Matcha Tea Treatment Toner, Colleen Rothschild Micro Mineral Soothing Toner, First Aid Beauty Wild Oat Hydrating Toner
Step 3: Serum Favorites
Why use serum? You always want to apply after cleansing before moisturizing with the intent of delivering powerful, high potency ingredients directly into the skin. They’re great for targeting specific skincare concerns, like wrinkles, discoloration, dryness, etc.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum, Colleen Rothschild Age Renewal Super Serum, Colleen Rothschild Retinol Supreme Night Oil, Colleen Rothschild Facial Oil No. 9, Fountain of Truth Insta-Face Lift Elixir, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oat & Hemp Seed Dry Oil, Neutrogena Bright Boost Illuminating Serum
Step 4: Moisturizer Favorites
Why moisturize? It can help keep your skin clear, smooth, and wrinkle-free. Moisturizing can reduce skin problems, signs of blemishes, helps with youthfulness and fights wrinkles.
Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream with SPF 30, Tula Hydrating Day & Night Cream, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Intense Hydration and Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer, Colleen Rothschild Extreme Recovery Cream
Step 5: Eye Cream
Why use an eye cream? The skin around your eye is extremely delicate (like tissue paper) so these creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin around the eye, so they tend to be thicker. They can help with dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles.
Tula Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm, First Aid Beauty Triple Remedy AM Gel Cream, First Aid Beauty Skin Lab Retinol Eye Cream, Colleen Rothschild Complete Eye Cream, RoC Eye Cream, Elemis Eye-Revive Mask
SPF Favorites
Why use SPF? For obvious reasons, to protect you from the sun and exposure. We should be wearing SPF everyday, even in the colder months! You can usually find SPF within moisturizers, primers, makeup and setting sprays so you can avoid this extra step by combining it with a step you already do.
Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40, Coola Makeup Setting Spray, Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF 30, It Cosmetics CC Cream
Acne Spot Treatment Favorites
A few that I find helpful for hormonal / stress induced acne. If you find yourself with severe/ cystic acne, I HIGHLY encourage you to contact your dermatologist.
Demologica Clear Start Breakout Clearing Booster, Tula Acne Spot Treatment, Peter Thomas Roth Acne-Clear Invisible Dots (stickers).
Okay, PHEW! I know that was A LOT! I tried to make it as in depth as possible but hopefully that doesn’t overwhelm. I realize I try A LOT more products than the average person… So my final takeaways (to prioritize) is to make sure you’re cleansing and moisturizing (hopefully with SPF). If you feel confident about doing that, add in a toner, serum and eye cream. Skincare (like many other things) is a trial and error process. What works for me, won’t necessarily work for you but I feel confident about the brands that I suggested that everyone could find something that works for their skin and budget.
