7 Photo Session Outfit Ideas
Photo taking season is here! Whether you’ve got an engagement shoot, you’re taking family photos or you’ve got a solo session booked, this post is for you. A few weeks ago I shared a few tips on how to pose in photos and you gals loved the idea of me sharing a few outfit ideas in addition to that.
When it comes to styling outfits to be photographed with others, I recommend you focus on coordinating and not perfectly matching. I prefer natural and muted color schemes like white, grey and blues / navy. I personally don’t love shooting in super bold patterns and prints (for the sake of being timeless), which is why I opted for solid colors in my engagement pictures and in last year’s holiday card. If I do a print, I like a classic one like gingham (see below) or something small / a little more subtle.
Outfits can be as dressy or as casual as you’d like! Even when I am casual, I like to feel put together without looking like I tried too hard. I usually gravitate towards silhouettes and styles that I feel the most confident in. Here are a few outfit inspiration ideas:

Go for a monochromatic look in one color like black, tan or navy! You can swap out the sandals for a mule, heeled bootie or little white sneaker for a more casual look.

When it doubt, you can never go wrong with a classic white top (can be a blouse or a button up) and any shade of denim. You can add a animal print shoe or a pop of color (red, yellow, pink) for a modern punch.

This was accidental coordination but I think it works, BK is a touch more casual than me (could easily swap out for a non-hooded sweater) but I think this look would be cute to photograph professionally - especially for fall.

This dress is a #1 best seller on Amazon, had to give it a try on these curves! I like it… I think it’s a good inexpensive option and I like that it offers so many different colors and sleeve lengths. I also think it would layer really well since the fabric is thin.
other tips:
This probably goes without saying but make sure you try on your outfits WITH UNDERGARMENTS in front of a mirror. Move around, pose and see how the garment moves. Often times you may need a different bra or shapewear than you originally have thought. Better to sort that out before your day of shoot so you’re as calm as a cucumber. More posing tips here!
Whatever you end up wearing, promise me you won’t overthink it! Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident and don’t worry too much about all of the “fashion rules.” Find inspiration from pictures online (that’s what I like to do) and create your own version. If you’re styling a large group or family pictures, pick your outfit first and then coordinate everyone else. Kids and the fellas are usually the easiest but I don’t have too much experience with that since BK likes to dress himself.
