MYX Fitness Review + My Current Workout Routine
When the world shut down in March of 2020, the last thing I thought about was how I was going to get my workouts in. Luckily, BK (my husband) is very fitness focused and quickly ordered a few items to create a makeshift home gym in a corner of our unfinished basement, shared a little bit about that here. We later realized we’d be in it for the long haul so we began exploring other options to keep us active.
Over the summer, I connected with MYX Fitness. I was immediately attracted to them because of their inclusive approach and commitment to showcasing different body types and skill levels. They invited me into their studio to film a body positive kettlebell workout which I’m excited to share via a sponsored post in a couple weeks! I was so impressed by my experience with them, I decided to get the bike. To be honest, it sat in my garage for a few weeks. I was initially very intimidated by it but eventually worked up the courage to try it out and after using it for a couple months, I feel prepared to share my honest review to your questions submitted last week.
What is MYX? Never heard of it
MYX is a complete, personalized and motivating program for at-home workouts. I have the MYX Plus System which includes a commercial grade spin bike, 6-piece weight set, sweat-proof touchscreen, kettle-bell, foam roller, resistance bands, heart-rate monitor, stabilizing mat and oversized exercise mat. MYXfitness offers full body workouts focusing on strength, endurance, balance and flexibility to create effective results.
Why did you choose MYX? Was this your choice or is this a sponsored post?
Pre-pandemic, I was content with my workout routine. I worked with a personal trainer 1-2x a week and went to the gym by myself 1-2x a week. I never would have considered any sort of at-home system until 2020 hit. BK and I quickly realized that we needed more at-home solutions, especially as the weather started to turn. As I mentioned above, I really liked their inclusive approach to fitness and after having such a positive experience with them in their studio, I knew I wanted the system in my home. I also love comparing my heart rate with the monitor they provide against my Apple Watch and have found it to be very consistent.
Like all content I produce, what I share is always my choice. I share more about how I typically produce and choose sponsored content here if you’re interested. This is not a sponsored post but in lieu of the video (filmed in November, shown below) coming to my feed in a few weeks, I wanted to share a more in depth review on my experience.

Did you cycle / go to spin classes ever before?
Yes back in 2011/2012 and I hated every second of it. I took a bunch of spin classes at a local gym and was absolutely miserable about going. I always felt so self conscious about my body on the bike and other people watching how slow / tired I’d be. Low-key loving working out in the privacy of my own home so I can go as fast or as slow as I want without feeling judged. Only competing against myself, which I love. I kick myself for letting the bike sit in my garage for all those weeks!
Is the seat comfortable? How long were you sore?
Another thing I was hesitant about that ended up not being that bad. After a few rides, I got used to it pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend watching the tutorials within the app on how to adjust your seat properly. I have very low pain tolerance and I really have to say, it’s not that bad! My legs were more sore from the actual workouts than my bum.
Primal sent me a pair of their padded bike shorts which were nice but ultimately did not find them necessary.
Do you need to have special shoes that clip in?
Unlike some competitors (Peloton and SoulCycle), you do not need special shoes that clip into your bike. The pedals are made for both options if you do own cycling shoes and want to use them.
I was kindly gifted these Tiem sneakers (women owned business) and have been loving the stability of having them clip in. BK uses his regular sneakers and has no complaints. I would say they’re not 100% necessary at first but may be worth the investment down the line if you’re using it frequently.
Do you find the bike is stable? what is the weight limit?
Absolutely. BK put it together so some things had to be tightened when we initially started using it but ultimately I feel very secure on it. It can adjust for people of all heights, so BK and I have different settings which is very easy to change. The seat can hold up to 350 pounds. Other helpful info: The MYX bike weighs 134 lbs and arrives fully assembled, so there’s no setup necessary. Although we chose to put it together to limit exposure, at the time.
Exact dimensions are 54” L x 21” W x 47” H. The MYX footprint is 3’4” L x 1’7” W
How does it compare to Peloton?
I’ve never owned or used a Peloton, so I can’t compare based on my experience. But from what I’ve researched, the biggest difference is that you won't find leaderboards or live classes on the MYX platform. I found this article that does a great job explaining the differences between the two bikes. I also found this on the MYX website to compare pricing against competitors:
What are the classes like?
I thought by using the bike for ~two months that I’d have a really good grasp of the classes but NO! I’ve taken nearly 50 different classes and feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface. I really appreciate this because I get bored easily when it comes to workouts so even if you repeat a class, the music is different each time. There are so many different classes for on and off the bike. For the bike there are a series of different classes, levels and themes. Off the bike I’ve done strength training, dance cardio, kettlebell, core, yoga, stretching, foam rolling… to name a few! The MYX Fitness website does a good job of explaining the different options.
Just before I published my blog post today, I saw that my pre-recorded workout is now live on the app! I did it this morning, coincidentally in the same exact outfit. Let me know if you try it!
How are the music selections and trainers?
Fantastic! There are a variety of music choices that you can sort through. A few of my favorites are Pop2K, Hip Hop and Today’s Country. I love that you get to experience a different playlist every time you work out, and enjoy popular music from genres across the board. Something else that is unique to MYX is that you can adjust both music and coach volumes to dial in your workout and get everything just like you like it — and you can even skip the songs you don't like.
I absolutely adore the trainers. A few of my favorites are Justin Flexen, Shaun Patrick Tubbs, Dyan Tsiumis, Dan Lawrence and Christina LaGrega. I really enjoy following them on Instagram as well, they ALWAYS respond whenever I tag them in stories which I love!
How much does it cost?
The cost breakdown is explained in the graphic above but essentially its a a one-time payment of $1,299 or finance with Affirm from $37/month for 36 months at 0% APR for THE MYX. For THE MYX PLUS (what I have) is $1,499 or finance with Affirm from $42/month for 36 months at 0% APR. The membership is $29 a month and is not included in the payment plans.
Is it worth the money?
This is a relative question but personally I think so, yes. I like to think about things in terms of cost per use. Ever since I mustered up the confidence to hop on the bike, I use some aspect of it at least four times per week. Brian uses it as well (you get to create separate user profiles). So essentially we have two people using some aspect of the bike / app at least five times per week.
What is your current fitness routine?
I aim to move my body at least five times a week. I will do a bike ride at least three times a week, supplementing non-bike ride days with high incline walking on our treadmill that we bought in a somewhat panic at the beginning of quarantine.
We also purchased a squat rack with weights, similar set linked here. I’ll do about 30-40 minutes of strength training, usually guided by BK. I’ve also been doing the strength + core classes offered on the MYX app. I don’t really have a set routine of what I do, but I aim to workout for at least 60 minutes including some sort of cool down and stretch. I get bored easily so I can never do the same thing twice but I try to focus on legs, core and upper body at least one day a week. Our makeshift home gym is not pretty by any means but it is effective, for now!
We’ve also been consistent with our morning walks with Walter, walking about a mile each day with him (weather pending).
