Hair Update: What I'm Using Lately + Living Proof Code

Today’s post is dedicated to my mane! I’ve always been open with my struggles related to my hair. It’s taken me a really long time to learn how to style and get comfortable with it. Back in 2019, I toured the Living Proof headquarters and learned so much about their products which has turned me into a life long believer. I talk more about my experience and transition to Living Proof products on this previous post. So today, sharing an update to what I’m using and how I style it.

hair care

I also reached out to Living Proof for an exclusive code for my readers. Spend $40 or more on select products and receive a FREE full size Dry Shampoo with promo code CARALYN. Sharing a few of my favorites included in the promo below.

Their Dry Shampoo is truly elite, but only if you know how to use it properly. I recorded a tutorial that can be found here!

I also love and swear by the entire Living Proof Full line, I use the shampoo and conditioner frequently. When I feel like I have a lot of product build up, I’ll use the Triple Detox Shampoo which is a non-stripping, color safe detox shampoo that gently removes buildup from the three big causes: product, pollution and hard water.

styling

For hair ties, I absolutely LOVE Gimme Beauty. I discovered them via Kate Small Things and haven’t looked back. I have really fine but thick hair and these hair ties give me the perfect hold without any tenderness on my head. I believe CARALYN should still work for a discount!

I’ve been using Sultra Hair Wands for years. I alternate between the 1 inch and 1.5 inch. The wider the barrel, the wider/looser the curls. They take little bit of trial and error but I share how I use them on this previous hair post!

I was also recently inspired by Mary Orton to try hot rollers again. She has a great in-depth post on her blog on her technique, I have been meaning to do one of my own. These are the roller sets I’ve tried. I love the bigger one for home and the smaller one for travel.

Whether I’m using the curling wand or the hot rollers, I always like to use Living Proof Instant Protection Spray and secure the hold with their Control Hairspray. Before using heat, I like to use their 5-in-1 Styling treatment which is good for allowing you to style and treat in one step for smoothness, volume, conditioning, strength, and polish.
For high humidity, I swear by their Instant De-Frizzer. It works like a charm! For fly away’s and baby hairs, I’ve been using these Anti Frizz Hair Flyaway Tamer- Hair Finishing Sticks. They come in a two pack so you can throw on in your purse for on the go situations!

cut & color

I like to have a pretty low maintenance cut and color. I recently shared my exact cut on my hair highlight the other day. I have layered cut with a reverse “C” shape. My stylist, Maggie does a good job explaining in the video I have saved. In regards to color, I don’t really do much. A couple times a year I will get some baby highlights and a gloss, asking her to replicate the natural ones I already have. The next time I go I will ask to share the products / colors she uses on me. Your best bet is ALWAYS to bring a series of photo inspiration to your stylist because everyone may interpret things differently. Here’s a picture of the back of my hair after my cut last week!

Have you ever tried Living Proof products or any of these styling techniques? I’d love to hear about it below. Feel free to leave any questions or requests below too. Thanks for reading. xx CMK
