Closet Tour Reveal
It’s time
to finally reveal
the closet
While we were house hunting, we knew we'd need a space for me to use as a functional closet. Before moving back in September, I had several rolling racks and bins of clothes, shoes and accessories in our basement, where I kept most of my closet items, rotating them seasonally. My wardrobe is a huge part of my job, so not only did this space need to be beautiful but also functional! I want to preface this post and reiterate that this closet may seem excessive, but it is a significant part of my job, so please keep that in mind! I've been hesitant to share this, but perhaps this will give some inspiration for those looking to make their closet spaces more functional. Let’s get into it!
This small attic space was formerly used as a playroom by the previous owners. The walls are angled, but I knew this room had closet potential, so as soon as we moved in, I had several estimates from businesses in the area that specialized in closet design. I chose California Closets as they were the most professional and easy to work with, and I also felt they best understood my vision and functional needs for the space. They were phenomenal to work with and could work with the existing elements of the room and create custom racks/shelving within the space. Here's a "before" photo:
We tore down the center mirror in order to accommodate more hanging space and changed the light fixture to something that gave off more light since there wasn’t a ton of natural light, here’s a look of the room now.
California Closets helped me customize every element of this space! They built me a custom island with drawers on both sides to accommodate undergarments (you know I have a lot), gym clothes, and sweaters. I also have a few drawers made explicitly for jewelry and sunglasses. We decided to go a little higher than average on the island to maximize storage options.
Here’s another angle of the shelving that is used for folded sweaters and long hanging dresses. Let’s get into these drawers which may be my favorite part!
I did my best to organize things that made the most sense to me! I kept my statement jewelry in one area and more delicate jewelry in another spot. You could easily recreate the look with your own drawer and organizers like this! And can we have a little moment for the very glam garbage can? I actually purchased two, one for my closet and one for our bathroom.
Since the walls are angled, we couldn’t go too high with our hanging space but this wall was perfect for short dresses. Anything that was longer, I hung it so the bottom was tucked into the bottom hanger. I really love and cannot recommend these felt hangers enough. I’ve repurchased several times and I think they work well for maximizing your space.
There was a small closet off the room that we turned exclusively into shoe storage! It is a tight space but I was grateful to the CC team for measuring my size 11 shoes to ensure that everything would fit nicely.
And now onto a few of my favorite organizational finds that I used for the space! In case you missed it, I previously shared more on how I store and organize my headbands on this blog post.
Thank you so much for reading and taking a tour of my closet! I hope you enjoyed. Feel free to leave any questions below, looking forward to sharing more room reveals with you. Which room would you like to see next? Be sure to check out more home related and room reveal posts on the blog. xx CMK
