Morning Room Reveal
Let’s lounge out and reveal the
Morning Room
Back with another room reveal! When we first looked at this home, it was one of the rooms we both loved the most but weren’t quite sure what to do with the space. The previous owners had called it a morning room, which neither of us had ever heard of before. So for reference, I decided to look it up! A morning room is a small open room attached to the kitchen, it can also connect to your outdoor space or yard.
The term “morning room” originated from the idea of a room that would catch the morning sun and provide the warm touch of nature. One of the main selling points of this home was the amount of natural light we get throughout the day, this room included. This quaint room sits right off the kitchen and was previously used as an office space. We decided that we wanted it to be a casual dining and entertaining space with lots of versatility.
Let’s take a deeper dive into the space!
let’s talk about
design and windows
We worked closely with Michael P. Design of MichaelPDesign.com and Room to design the room to create a functional space. This room is small and narrow, so we struggled with the layout but eventually determined this would be the most practical for a multi-purpose space. Michael helped us choose our wall color, Benjamin Moore Classic Grey, the perfect neutral tone and changes depending on day and light. Sherwin Williams’ Pure White is our trim and other woodwork throughout the house. We had all the woodwork, walls and floors painted/refinished before we moved in.
As you can see below, previous owners had painted the trim a greenish/beige color. We wanted to maximize the brightness of the space, so we opted for white. While these windows are gorgeous, they were quite a challenge to determine what window treatments would work. We worked with a local drapery business to create the custom drapes that were ultimately velcroed inside of the windows so that it wouldn’t distract from the unique shape and beauty of them. I purchased these magnetic curtain tiebacks to be able to keep them open and take them off when we want more privacy.
LET’S GET COMFY ON THE
BENCHMADE MODERN SOFA
I had a unique opportunity to experience a BenchMade Modern sofa that was kindly gifted to us for our Living Room. We had such a great, seamless experience with that sofa that we decided to purchase another for this room. Pandemic-related delays were top of mind, so I knew we’d have to be patient, but I was intrigued by the brand and their custom luxury sofas made in 5 weeks. Before committing to a sofa, they sent me fabric swatches and life-size paper printouts to lay in the space to make sure it would fit. I ended up having more room than I initially thought, so we were able to get something larger. I would not have known that if I didn’t have the option to visualize. We ended up with the MCM Sofa in 80” in Conran Wheat fabric and stained walnut legs. We LOVE this sofa so much; I highly recommend checking them out if you’re in the market for new furniture. I’m embarrassed to admit that we’ve spilled so much on it already, but the performance fabric repels liquids, so it still looks pristine.
This has quickly become one of our favorite rooms to be in. The two white chairs in the middle of the room swivel so guests can push back the chairs and angle themselves to be able to watch TV. We have the Samsung Frame TV frame, which has quickly become our favorite thing. When not in use, it looks like artwork hanging on the wall. Brian and I love to sit at the high-top table when we’re having a quick meal or happy hour. This small space fits about seven people comfortably, with the additional opportunity to pull dining room chairs into it. Underneath the TV, we have a very discrete bar cabinet that holds a lot more than you’d think!
This tufted ottoman was originally meant for our Living Room, but it ended up being too narrow for the space, and it worked perfectly here! I keep a decorative tray on top of it with coasters so we can put beverages on there, kick our feet up, and relax.
