Summer is approaching, and that means one thing—it's almost swimsuit season! Each year, I share my swimsuit roundup of trending size-inclusive styles, and we are back with my 2024 picks. Finding the perfect swimsuit when you have a fuller figure, a postpartum body, and/or fill-in-the-blank with whatever you’re feeling can be a daunting task. From poor fit to lack of support, there are so many potential pitfalls. But don't get disheartened - with the right knowledge and approach, you can absolutely find swimwear that flatters your curves and makes you feel amazing. As a full-figured woman, former model, and undergarment expert, here are my top tips for swimsuit shopping success:

Prioritize Proper Support

Sufficient support in the bust area is key for a secure, confident fit in the water. Look for swimsuits with molded cups, underwires, and wide shoulder straps to lift and support your bust. A well-constructed swimsuit will allow you to move freely without worry. If you're looking for the maximum support, lift, and separation in a swimsuit, you'll want to consider underwire swimsuits. Whether it's a one-piece, tankini, or bikini, know you have many options! But if you haven't been properly fitted for a bra in the last 6-12 months at a local specialty shop or Nordstrom, I strongly encourage you to. One of my newest favorite brands, Bravissimo, offers virtual fittings for bras and swimwear!

Embrace Your Curves

Don't hide your shape - flaunt it! No matter your current phase, I can assure you that there is a swimsuit out there that makes you look and feel amazing. Swimsuits with shirring or ruching across the torso help camouflage any insecurities while celebrating your silhouette. If you want more coverage, a swim dress or high-waisted style can also be a great option.

Focus on Fit Over Size

As hard as it can be, don't get caught up in swimsuit sizes. Every brand runs differently, so focus on a good fit rather than the number on the inside of the tag. Try on suits and size up or down until you find the one that provides a smooth, comfortable fit. Feel free to cut the tag out if it bothers you!

Invest in Quality

While budget is always a consideration, higher-quality swimsuits made of durable fabrics with reinforced seams and construction will retain their shape and last much longer. Splurge a little to get the most wear from your suit, and take care of them with my preferred fabric care wash, which gets rid of the chlorine smell and helps maintain the elasticity. Always hang dry, never put in the dryer, as heat melts elastic.

Confidence is Key

For those who prefer a two-piece swimsuit, there are lots of sizzling options that are both stylish and flattering. High-waisted bottoms provide amazing coverage. I am not typically drawn to a two-piece, but this set from Lands’ End and this brand for plus-size I have found to be supportive, comfortable, and stylish. UNDERWIRE SWIMSUITS

If you're looking for the maximum support, lift, and separation in a swimsuit, you'll want to consider underwire swimsuits. Whether it's a one-piece, tankini, or bikini, know you have many options! But if you haven't been properly fitted for a bra in the last 6-12 months at a local specialty shop or Nordstrom, I strongly encourage you to. One of my newest favorite brands, Bravissimo, offers virtual fittings for bras and swimwear! I recently shared my experience with it, and I can't recommend it enough! Once you know your proper size, it's easier to shop for underwire bikinis, tankinis, and one-piece suits. As a general rule of thumb, I like to size up to my sister size (one larger band size, one cup size down) for extra roominess in the band. So if I’m wearing a 34GG in bras right now, I’ll wear a 36G in swimsuits. I shared more about sister sizing on my Bra highlight on IG. A few places I recommend to shop are:

MATERNITY SWIMSUIT PICKS

I am excited to finally have some first-hand experience on this subject! I was able to size up in regular suits until well into my second trimester/beginning of the third. Another pro tip is to purchase your pre-pregnancy size in a long torso option (shown below), which accommodates the additional need for space. Depending on how much you’ll wear, you may want to save or splurge, but I can tell you from experience that having at least one good suit made me feel beyond comfortable and confident with the ebbs and flows of this ever-changing body. Some may prefer a bikini, just sized up in what would work now. I couldn’t find one that hit the right spots, so I opted for one-pieces and felt terrific, Gap maternity was one of my unexpected favorites.
